র্যাব প্রতিষ্ঠার পর থেকে দুই হাজারের অধিক জঙ্গি গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে জানিয়ে পুলিশের এই এলিট ফোর্সটির মহাপরিচালক বলেন, ‘হলি আর্টিজানের ঘটনার পর থেকে এখন পর্যন্ত এক হাজারের বেশি জঙ্গিকে আইনের আওতায় আনা সম্ভব হয়েছে। তাদের বিরুদ্ধে মামলার চার্জশিট আদালতে দাখিল করা হয়েছে। দ্রুতই তাদের রায় কার্যকর হবে।’
করোনাকালে জঙ্গিরা সু-সংগঠিত হবার সম্ভাবনা আছে কি-না জানতে চাইলে চৌধুরী আবদুল্লাহ আল মামুন বলেন, ‘করোনা একটি বৈশ্বিক সমস্যা। সারাবিশ্বই জঙ্গিবাদ নির্মূলে কাজ করছে। আমাদের গোয়েন্দা সংস্থাসহ বিভিন্ন আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনী একসঙ্গে কাজ করছে। জঙ্গি দমনে আমরা ঈর্ষণীয় সফলতা পেয়েছি। এই সফলতার ধারাবাহিকতা অব্যাহত থাকবে। গোয়েন্দা কার্যক্রম, অপারেশনাল কার্যক্রম, অব্যাহত আছে বলেই সম্প্রতিকালেও আমরা জঙ্গিদের ধরেছি। তারা যখনই পরিকল্পনা করছে তখনই আমরা অ্যাক্টিভলি তাদের বিরুদ্ধে ব্যবস্থা নিচ্ছি। যার কারণে আমাদের দেশে জঙ্গি কার্যক্রম যথেষ্ট নিয়ন্ত্রণে আছে।’
সাংবাদিকদের প্রশ্নে র্যাব প্রধান বলেন, ‘হলি আর্টিজানে হামলার আগে ও পরে জঙ্গিবাদ নিয়ে আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনী ব্যাপক অভিযান পরিচালনা করেছে। এসব অভিযানে অনেক জঙ্গি গ্রেফতার এবং মারা গেছে। জঙ্গিদের কাছ থেকে বিপুল পরিমাণ অস্ত্র, বিস্ফোরক উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে। এ কারণে তাদের আর আগের মতো মাথাচাড়া দিয়ে ওঠার সুযোগ নেই। আমরা সার্বক্ষণিক কাজ করছি।’

২০১৬ সালের ১ জুলাই রাতে গুলশানের হলি আর্টিজান বেকারিতে জঙ্গি হামলায় ১৭ জন বিদেশিসহ ২২ জন নিহত হন। জঙ্গিদের প্রতিহত করতে গিয়ে প্রাণ হারিয়েছিলেন পুলিশের একজন সহকারী কমিশনার ও একজন ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি)। ঘটনার পরদিন ভোরে (২ জুলাই) সকালে সেনা কমান্ডোদের অভিযানে ৫ জঙ্গি নিহত হয়।
